 Sponsored Walk -20th May 2012 – Exelby

We have a sponsored dog walk to help to raise funds for EARS, it will be in the afternoon on 20th May from the Green Dragon in Exelby.  Its an easy walk, approx 1 hour, so the oldies can manage it too.  We would love to see some of our adopted dogs there as well and catch up with them. For further information please call Dorothy on 07714004537.

If you are not sponsored you can still register for a donation of £5 .

Thankyou all for your support, we couldnt do what we do without you …

FEBRUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER

A busy month for EARS, as we become more widely known we are getting more calls for animals in need of re-homing, this month we have had 8 new arrivals into our direct care and 4 awaiting help for re homing from other sources, plus numerous calls that Alisa has helped to re-home or place in rescue without being in direct care of EARS. We are getting calls from various sources, the general public, vets and rescue centres. We are working closely with Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Thirsk and if they have a call for re-homing older dogs or dogs they are unable to take in we try and take them or help to find homes or alternative rescue space or foster care for them.

We have an URGENT PUT TO SLEEP SITUATION for a cat called Lana, I got a call from Bishopton Vets in Ripon on the 28th Feb regarding a cat, whose owner had taken her in to be put to sleep, the reason being that they had a new dog in the household and Lana has started to urinate in the house, the vet has checked her out and there is no medical reason for this, and we believe it is stress and as it coincides with the arrival of the dog it does seem to be the cause. The vet suggested that she try to re-home Lana who is a healthy 8 year old neutered tabby female, she is a house cat but lives on a farm so is used to coming and going as she pleases, she currently lives with other cats and dogs but we feel that she may be better in a household where she is the only animal, as it may cause her further stress to meet other new animals at the moment. I have spoken to the owner and she has agreed to let us try and find a new home for lana, before taking the drastic action of having this poor cat put to sleep. This is urgent as im not sure how long the owner will wait, so PLEASE IF YOU CAN HELP CALL ASAP 01765640383 (THE OWNER) OR EMAIL ears.nyorks@gmail.com

ANIMALS CURRENTLY IN OUR CARE SEEKING NEW HOMES

RED                                      TAZ

RED & TAZ came to us in an emergency situation, their home was being repossessed and they had to be put into emergency kennelling, until a foster carer was available for them, they are 13 years old and have lived together all their lives, however Red is very healthy and active the only thing he requires are 2 back teeth out and hes otherwise ok. Taz had to be taken to the emergency vet on Saturday as he was in a great deal of pain, he has a deep seated ear infection that has also caused an ulcer on his eye and a skin problem on his feet. He was given antibiotics, pain killer, ear drops and eye drops. We took him back to the vet last night and everything is showing improvement, we have a long way to go and he will be on antibiotics for some time yet, he also has a testicular tumour that we will deal with later as this is not life threatening. As you can see from the photo he had to be shaved as his coat was very matted. Taz will remain in our care for the foreseeable future until we can overcome his problems and find him the loving home he deserves. Although I did originally want to keep them together I think that their needs are currently very different and we are looking for a home for Red now.

Both of these dogs are very well behaved and have loving natures and are very bright, their only fault is that they are in need of some lead training, neither has shown any aggression towards humans even though taz is in pain when his ear is touched and the medicine applied, he never even growls at us. They are such a lovely couple of dogs and they deserve to live in a loving home in their twilight years,

SAM

SAM was found by the lady who rescued him from a farm, sitting on a pile of his own dirt, he has been chained up and fed on bread and teacakes for 7years, he was taken straight to the vet for a bath and health check, and they were amazed at the gentle loving dog that sam is, after the life he has had so far, he is a big teddy bear, he is still with his rescuer, we have had him neutered and he will complete his vaccinations in a couple of weeks, as he gets very stressed when in a car we want to move him directly to a new home. He has some special needs, he cant be in a house at the moment as enclosed spaces are very scary for him and he is frantic to escape them, he would currently need outdoor living quarters in a barn or large kennel with a large enclosed run, he gets on with other dogs and can be walked on a lead, sam would need very careful introduction to home life and he needs lots of patience and understanding and most of all time to adjust to a normal life. Sam will be going to his new home in may after lambing time, he is going to live with Stephen and tonya who rescue border collies and also have maisie(formerly judy). No better place he could have found. Thankyou to Stephen and tonya for giving this lovely boy a 2nd chance of a life filled with love, something he hasn’t known in his previous 7 years.

EDDIE

Eddie is a big cat, he was rescued from being put to sleep as his owner could no longer look after him, he is 13 years old. He has had to be shaved as his coat was very matted and he has to have most of his teeth out as they are in very bad condition, otherwise he is vaccinated, neutered and blood tested. He has a very quirky personality and he didn’t “speak” to his fosterer for 3 days after having his shave, although he had been lovely at the vets ! we were told by his former owner that he wasn’t a sociable cat, but he was sitting on his fosterers knee on the first night and likes to sleep on her bed (he also likes to wake her up nice and early with a big paw)

LIN will be coming into our foster care tomorrow, she is a failed wsd, and has to be rehomed as she cant be kept as a pet on a working farm, she is such a pretty little girl,of 4 years old, but as she has lived outside she is going to need some time and patience from a very special owner who is prepared to start from scratch with house training, we are looking for an active home for lin, possibly with an agility or flyball club member, being a collie she needs to be working her body and soul !

JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER

WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY 2012 FROM ALL OF US AT E.A.R.S

We have only been in operation for a few weeks and we have already achieved so much, a huge thank you to everyone, without your support some of the animals on this photo may not have been here as they were in at risk situations and may have been pts if we hadn’t stepped in to help when asked. Almost all of these lovely dogs are settled in new homes and some are being sponsored on our support scheme. Without you this would not have been possible. I hope that we go from strength to strength in 2012 and can rescue many more at risk animals.

New Residents

We have a new sponsor dog, Dusty who is 12 years old and is happily settled in a new home and supported on our sponsor scheme, thanks to the article in the Northern Echo on the 28th December. You can see Dusty’s full story on the sponsor animals page on our website.

Bono came into our care on sat 7th Jan and he is reserved and hopefully going to his new home on Monday, a real little sweetie, that came to us with reported medical problems, but we believe this was due to diet as he has shown no signs of any problems, but his possible new owner is aware and is prepared to cover any vet bills he may incur in the future.
